We offer many educational opportunities for our clients and others. If you would like us to speak at your event or organization, please contact us; these programs can usually be customized or shortened for a particular audience or time allotment.

Putting Your House in Order – Estate Planning Client Orientation Workshop

If you have scheduled your estate planning appointments, please join us for our Putting Your House in Order estate planning client orientation workshops. We will explain estate planning concepts and methods, our approach to estate planning and general fee structure. Our free estate planning client orientation workshops are regularly scheduled twice per month in our offices and generally last 1½ hours, but could go to 2 hours or more with questions. Truth About Medicaid Eligibility – Asset Protection Planning Educational Workshop

If you or a loved one have concerns regarding protecting your hard-earned assets or the spend-down of those assets in the event of a nursing home admission, this workshop is for you. This program geared toward individuals and their families for when the individual is no longer able to live at home or an independent or assisted living facility, and would require skilled nursing care in a nursing home setting. We discuss Medicaid eligibility and tools available to protect family assets for themselves and their loved ones. Our Medicaid educational workshops are regularly scheduled once per month in our offices and generally last 1½ hours, but could go to 2 hours or more with questions. Click here to register one of our workshops.

Success for Successors – Trust Administration Workshop

If you have been named in a loved one’s estate planning documents as a successor trustee or other fiduciary for a loved one and want to know more about estate planning and your possible role and responsibilities, this workshop is for you. In this workshop, we discuss what to do, when. We cover how to get the successor trustees qualified to act, the duties of successor trustees and when they should perform those duties. These workshops are scheduled once or twice per year in our offices and generally last about 3 hours.

Legal Planning for Family Caregivers

The focus of this program is to review options that are available to individuals and their families for when the individual can no longer live alone and needs some assistance. We discuss caring for the individual at home by family caregivers, outside agencies and others. Family caregiver respite care and adult day care are also reviewed. When care is no longer feasible in the home, we go through various living arrangement and financing options, including assisted living, adult foster care and nursing homes. This program is generally about 1 hour in length, but could go to 1½ hours or more with questions.

Legal Issues of Business Entities

If you are starting a new business or have an existing business for which you want to know more about the legal issues affecting your business, this workshop is for you. In this workshop, we discuss the legal, liability and tax effects of various types of business entities. We also cover accounting systems, employees and payroll, and the regular filing responsibilities with federal, state and local governmental agencies and authorities. Business exit strategies are also reviewed along with buy/sell agreements and other contracts. These workshops are scheduled two to three times per year at the Michigan Small Business Development Center of St. Clair County and generally last about 3 hours. Providing for Special Needs Loved Ones

This workshop is geared towards families with a disabled loved one who is on some type of income or asset based governmental benefits, such as SSI or Medicaid. The focus of the workshop is enhancing the lives of special needs loved ones with gifts and inheritances without jeopardizing their governmental benefits through the use of special needs trusts. This program is generally about 45 minutes in length, but could go to 1¼ hours or more with questions.
